My History of Marine Biology Timeline
Evidence of Work
Our task in this project was to create a timeline of important people/ technology that occurred overtime to make marine biology a thing. We were given 20 things/ people to research the time, why they were important, and put them in order. We also had to draw these things.
Our final project is shown above in these two images . We used big pieces of paper and wrote out bubbles for each important thing in this history. The post it notes are our classmates commenting on our project.

Content
Aristotle- A greek scholar who lived 4th Century B.C. (384-322 BC) that wrote records of the significant biological observations
James Cook-English sea captain who made scientific observations, was employed as a full-time naturalist and did three voyages to Antarctic and Pacific Islands 1768-1779
Charles Darwin-Proposed theory of evolution by natural selection and produced studies of coral reefs, plankton, and barnacles and many more organisms
Marine Labs- Created to study living organisms for long term experiments and allowed more access to more biologists
The Wilkes Expedition- First international survey that was funded by the US that charted coast of Antarctica, 280 South Pacific Islands and “Oregon” in 1838-1842 it cost $928,000.
Challenger Expedition-British warship 1872-1876 that was geared for dredging, water sampling, bottom sampling that produced 50 volumes of data
Sonar-Sound navigation ranging that was used for urgent military use funded Woods Hole and Scripps 1914-1918
Scuba-(Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) that allowed marine biologists to observe marine organisms in their natural environment, up to 165 feet established in 1943
Flip- Boat that flips up: (Floating Instrument Platform) That uses water to fill the hull which swings FLIP to a vertical position and stabilizes the vessel and was created in the 1960’s
Alvin- A deepsea submersible made in woods Hole in 1964, owned by US NAVY and can reach 99% of the global ocean floor submerges up to 6500 meters (about 21300 ft).
Satelite Imagery- Device that monitored global temperature, weather, algae production, pollution created in 1959
Aquarius-Aquarius is an underwater marine biology lab, that has living quarters at a depth of 20 meters for ten day missions invented in 1986
ROV's- Remote operated vehicle used for going underwater, gathering data and things from underwater with its robot claws.
Crittercam- Camera that attatches onto animals to study their habits and lives and releases when enough data is collected invented in 1986
AUV's- Autonomous Underwater Vehicles which is a vehicle that moves by its own controls invented in 1991
NOAA Okeanos Explorer- Telepresence Technology that has cameras to view ocean floor invented in 2010 and has a dedicated ROV

Reflection
This project was a very important project and a fun one. I learned about myself that I enjoy drawing which I never do.
